This release, celebrating Fèis Ìle 2023, is a special 25-year-old whisky that's unlikely to linger on the shelf. It was finished in the rarely encountered manzanilla cask, a salty dry wine from Sanlucar de Barrameda in Spain, and bottled at cask strength with an ABV of 52.3%. The essence of aged manzanilla is truly superb. The nose reveals a strong maritime scent with saline notes, toasted almonds, apples, and toffee, reminiscent of sherry, accompanied by woody spices. On the palate, it is peppery and spicy, very dry and salty with a rasping quality akin to an old amontillado, followed by sweeter notes of dried fruit and dates, all beautifully balanced. The finish is long, sweet, and spicy with hints of salted caramel.
