Introduced in mid-2015, the WhistlePig Old World is an intriguing 12-year-old straight rye whiskey, meticulously finished in a variety of wine casks: 63% Madeira, 30% Sauternes, and 7% Port. Drawing inspiration from the refined techniques of the 'old world', with a nod to the craftsmanship of Scotch whisky, it presents a distinguished profile. The nose reveals enticing aromas of sponge cake adorned with buttercream icing, chocolate chip cookies, and a touch of savoury oak. On the palate, a burst of red berry sweetness—raspberry, raisin, and cherry—is immediately apparent, complemented by drying cinnamon, nutmeg, and a whisper of anise. The finish lingers with notes of honeyed cereal, white wine, mint leaf, and dark chocolate.
