This intriguing release from Tanduay in the Philippines, aptly named Double Rum, artfully blends two distinct expressions: a five-year-old and a sixteen-year-old rum. These are married in a first-fill bourbon cask for two years, resulting in a superb spirit. Immensely fruity with sweet vanilla and lightly toasted nuts, it is an excellent sipper neat and should perform admirably in classic rum cocktails. The palate opens with silky vanilla, leading to an abundance of tropical fruit sweetness. Charred pineapple, a hint of peach, and some candied stone fruits harmonise with roasted nuts, toasted oak, and a subtle touch of cardamom and clove.
